Indian Valley Cluster Reformation 500 Events in 2017

Sunday, May 21 at 2:00 PM at Christ, Kulpsville: “Luther 500 – A Layman’s Guide to the Reformation” In a spirited one-hour presentation, in the style of a TED Talk, Steve Seyfried brings the story of the Reformation to life from the posting of the 95 Theses to the Peace of Augsburg that formally recognized the Lutheran Church.

Sunday, June 25 at 2:00 PM at Advent, Harleysville: “An Afternoon with Katie Luther” An opportunity to meet a remarkable woman who lived at an extraordinary time and place. Come hear her astounding story.

 Sunday, July 16 at 2:00 PM at Christ, Kulpsville: Lenny Duncan – “The Decolonize Lutheranism Movement” Of all Protestant denominations in the United States, the ELCA is the least racially and ethnically diverse. Our Lutheran treasure is a theology for all people. Come learn about a movement that is trying to create a more inclusive and evangelical ELCA.

 Sunday, August 20 at 10:00 AM at Grace, Hatfield: Join in our Annual Cluster Worship and picnic with a Reformation flair for this special anniversary year.

Saturday, September 16, at 7:30 PM at Little Zion, Telford: Reformation Celebration: 500 Years of Music. The concert will feature Dale Travis, one of the most sought after bass-baritones in America today. Mr. Travis has been a frequent guest artist at the most prestigious opera companies in the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago and The San Francisco Opera. The concert will also feature brass, organ, piano, choir and congregational singing.

Sunday, September 24, at 3:00 PM at St. Paul’s, Telford: “Reformation Hymn Fest” Music was a big part of the Reformation movement. Luther and the other reformers used hymns as teaching tools and a means of involving people in worship. Come sing and explore the role of hymns in the Reformation with Organists Vince Ryan and Gayle King.

Sunday, October 8 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at Christ, Kulpsville: “Youth and Family Lutherfest” This day will celebrate the Reformation with fun for the whole family! Displays, interactive activities, and refreshments are planned. Mark your calendar now, because you won’t want to miss it!

Saturday, October 21 from 10:00 AM at Trinity, Lansdale: “Reformation Event” Bishop Donald McCoid, former Executive for Ecumenical and Inter-Religious Relations of the ELCA will offer a keynote presentation. A catered lunch will be available. Then at 1:00 PM, Bishop Claire Burkat of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod of the ELCA will preside at worship and Father Peter Donohue, President of Villanova University, will preach.

Sunday, October 22 at 2:00 PM at Little Zion, Telford: The Reverend Dr. Karl Krueger, Archivist and Church Historian, former Director of the Krauth Memorial Library and Professor of History of Christianity at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, Dr. Krueger is a knowledgeable and entertaining speaker who brings Lutheran history to life.

Sunday, November 12, time TBA, at Emmanuel, Souderton: “Luther” The Movie will be shown. During the early 16th Century, idealistic German monk Martin Luther, disgusted by materialism in the church, begins the dialogue that will lead to the Protestant Reformation. This 2003 film stars Joseph Fiennes and is rated PG-13.
